Research Abstract
My research focuses on how interactions at the level of groups of individuals affect trajectories of learning and change in economic development. I utilize an array of methods, emphasizing qualitative data, in order to discover and elaborate the roles of previously unknown or poorly understood mechanisms in development outcomes. Topics of current interest include identifying how different patterns of local coordination among policymakers affect economic changes in metropolitan regions in the United States, as well as state-business relations and industrial policy in Latin America, particularly in Mexico and Brazil.
