Research Abstract
As the Head of Education and Outreach at the UC Irvine, I am actively involved in all aspects of library user instruction both at a managerial level and as a practitioner. I provide leadership for the Libraries' instruction program by planning, coordinating and evaluating the personnel and activities which support this program. I work continuously to expand the scope of the program by working closely with faculty and campus administrators who provide and support undergraduate education, by using existing resources creatively, and by successfully lobbying for new resources to be assigned to the program. I work closely with subject and outreach librarians to coordinate library instruction activities in order to ensure broad programmatic planning and to assist the teaching librarians in designing instructional offerings that complement and build upon each other. In addition to programmatic responsibility, I mentor, train, and evaluate instruction librarians and library staff to improve the quality of instruction offered by the UCI Libraries.

The Department of Education and Outreach is poised to address the challenges of implementing an information literacy program that is fully integrated in all disciplines and at all levels of the undergraduate curriculum. My goal is to lead the Libraries' information literacy initiative by building on the existing relationships between librarians and instruction at both the lower- and upper-division level in order to teach information literacy principles and skills across the curriculum and within the context of discipline specific research paradigms.
