Abstract
Research focuses on the relationship between the creation of medical scientific knowledge on complex diseases and social disparities in access to health care. This research interest in the social context of disease is a central question in medical anthropology and has significant implications for health care and treatments available in Chicano/Latino communities. Dissertation on “Genetics of Inequality: Configurations of Race and Mexican Ethnicity in Diabetes Genetic Epidemiology”—analyzes how diabetes has come to be understood in the epidemiological community as a “minority” disease.
